501 is considered to be the purest dart game for many players out there. While cricket fans would likely take me to task on this, there's no doubt that this is by far one of the most competitive games one can play.
We featured a handful of tips in 501 Pointers: Part 1 and now we're moving on to more ways to close out fast and improve your score!
501 is unique because you have to hit a double to end the game. It's a fascinating way to conclude considering every part of the dartboard up until that point will net you points. Closing the game promptly, however, can be the difference between beating your buddies and setting new records.
Although earlier in the round, you'll likely look to hit triple-20s, triple-19s, or double bullseyes – as the game progresses and you begin to work your way near zero, always have an idea where you stand.
You'll get some helpful tips in the lower corner of your screen, and be sure to use them! They adjust whether you hit the ideal number or not, so take full advantage of this feature. As you get more experience, you'll find yourself paying closer attention to what numbers you want to hit and where you should end up.
Don't just throw darts, keep a keen eye on where you want to be come crunch time. Then make sure to hit what you aim for!
As you progress through rounds the strength of the wind will increase. By the end or near end of a game, the wind will play a huge role in how you compensate for a throw. Combating this can be tough if you have a higher arm angle and need to reach the back of the board.
Lowering the arm angle and throwing the dart with more force is the perfect way to avoid the wind for the most part. Unfortunately, you won't be able to launch the dart nearly as far.
With that said, dropping down low and firing at triple-19, triple-17 or even double bullseye will work fine. The wind will still move the dart a little bit, but you should be able play straight for your targets. If you have to reach a further part of the board, find an arm angle that will work and let it fly.
