In an ongoing series on Targettosspro.com, we're taking a closer look at the proper strategy and skills when playing Lawn Darts to help improve your overall performance. We covered some of the Poker Darts basics a short while back, and will now dive deeper into some advanced necessities that can really help you beat up on your buddies!
The arm angle is everything in Lawn Darts, and is without question most important when playing Poker Darts. Knowing when to use exact angles may take time and practice, especially with big winds involved, but it can be mastered.
On closer cards you'll want to use very low arm angles when targeting, and on cards positioned further and higher up the board, you'll have to use a much larger angle to even get there. Finding the angle that you feel most comfortable with is also very important.
As wind becomes more of a factor, you'll want to drop your arm angle even lower to minimize how much the dart will move once in flight. This is where practice will come into play and you'll likely need to work out what works and what doesn't. Obviously the higher arm angles will be necessary to hit certain shots, but you'll really have to compensate heavily for winds because of the added loft. When possible, stay low and limit the tough winds. Only go up when you have to.
If you're playing solo, the name of the game is getting a royal flush. No question. While this won't be easy, particularly for three straight hands, it can and has been done. Just check out the Royal Flush Club. If you're playing against a buddy or two, however, the game takes on a much different approach. Whether you're playing for leaderboard bragging rights or perhaps a tasty beverage – you'll have to outplay and outsmart your opponents to take the game.
While going for the Royal Flush is still very possible, it's very easy for your opponent to block or ruin your chances by going for one of the cards you need. Instead, play for a great hand, not THE greatest possible hand.
Three-of-a-kind will work out just fine, as will a flush or a straight. This should be your goal going in.
If your opponents are set to roll out a monster, don't be afraid to play for the block. Their hand may come down to one card and it might be up to you to play spoiler. Be creative when playing against multiple opponents and adjust on the fly. See how the board sets up, what your opponents are doing, and adjust as the game goes along. While execution is huge, strategy is also key.
That's all for today's lesson, folks. Tune in next time for more Lawn Dart Pointers as we examine some of the finer points of Target Toss Pro!
