If there's a trackball involved, there's a good chance that three-time Golden Tee national champion Steve Sobe can dissect how and why to play a game a certain way.
After a few months of throwing Lawn Darts in TTP: Lawn Darts, Sobe has come up with a familiar conclusion that has brought him success in just about everyone of IT's games.
Using your thumbs is the way to play.
If you're using this technique already, Sobe is here to provide a ringing endorsement. If you're looking for a way to improve your TTP scores, then you've come to the right place! Here's what the trackball master had to say on why thumbing the trackball is best in Target Toss Pro: Lawn Darts.

When I first started playing Bags, I began by strictly using my palm when hitting the trackball but quickly found the method difficult to repeat. I finally switched to using my thumbs and I haven't looked back since. For those unfamiliar with the terminology, this means I place both thumbs near the base of the ball and use a flicking motion instead of using my palm to actually strike the ball.
Think about it, when you want to really hone in on the pin when playing Golden Tee you use your thumbs. You can battle winds and control better distance of your shots - so why change this thought process in Lawn Darts? If anything, thumb users will have a bigger advantage in this game than they would in Golden Tee, or any other IT game for that matter.
In Target Toss Pro: Lawn Darts, the option for players to turn the trackball left and right to control their direction is huge! You can more or less pinpoint exactly where you want the dart to fly by moving yourself in the correct position.
Example: With a wind blowing to the right at eight mph, move to the left and hit a straight thumb shot. This is much more efficient than having to take the wind into account, and then hit the trackball right. It'll take time to get the proper arm angles and how different winds alter these tosses, but your technique will never change!
When given the option, players will chose to hit a straight shot (aka hit the trackball straight on) every single time, but even the best players in the world can't be perfect using their palm. With practice; however, a skilled player can be deadly once he/she learns how a dart will react to different winds.
Give it a shot. While Lawn Darts may not come across as a "thumb" game, I believe that with some practice, you'll really appreciate the control you gain when playing using this technique. Complete control of the trackball is literally at your fingertips. Or should I say your thumbs.
