Climbing the BAGS Ladder

Climbing the BAGS Ladder

Want To Become an Elite Player? Here's What it Takes!

It's no secret that BAGS is easy to play but hard to master.

High_scoresPlayers across the country consistently shoot in the 30's, 40's, 50's and even 60's after just a few short sessions with buddies over beers.

But as the game approaches its first birthday, many have wondered what it takes to get to the next level. Players hear about Timmy Mims and his 100 scores over 100, or Kirk Stimpert and David Crawford's combined score of 204 and wonder how they got that good.

So Targettosspro.com asked one of them to give a little insight into what it takes to become an elite player.

Tom "Killers" Kipphut III is a veteran of the trackball. A long time Golden Tee player who won thousands of dollars in the old monthly ITS tournaments, Kipphut rose out of nowhere to become the 10th Century Club member in mere weeks. Here's his story on his rise to the top.

BAGS was in my bar for 6 months before I started to play.

I always saw it, but never cared to play it. Then out of the blue I finally walked over and played a game. Man was it fun! After just four games I nailed a 58 to take over the high score and I thought my BAGS career would end there.

Tom_kipphutA few days later I got a call from a friend saying he had tossed a 61. Determined not to be outdone, I quickly fired up a 71 on my very next game.

But as competitive as I am I couldn't just leave it at that. I wanted to make sure I held the high score. So I went online to find out more about this compellingly addictive game.

I quickly discovered that I was only 29 points away from the elite score of 100. From that moment on I had a goal - I wanted to be a Century Club member.

I started amassing a hundred games a week. And by the 3rd week, I was putting up 70's fairly consistently. I even got my first scores in the 80’s and 90’s. But by then I had realized that 100 is not as easy as I imagined. I did however sink all 24 bags to become a Hole Shot Hero. But it didn't mean that much to me without the 100-point game.

Finally after four weeks I fired up a 100 to join the elite group of members. It was quite a rush having so much pressure in those final frames but it was amazing hitting triple digits.

I’m still new and have a long way to go studying the winds. I average about an 85-95 when I play alone - and an 80-90 head-to-head. And I’m confident I can get my top score up around 110. But my new goal is The Perfect 120. I’m not sure of it can be done. But, with a bit of luck and if the winds match up, you never know.

Kipphut's story of success is becoming more common everyday as players across the country continue to dedicate themselves to the game. With information and tips being shared on blogs and forums across the Internet, more and more players have begun striving, and reaching, elite status. Who knows, YOU might be the next.
