It's official, the first annual Bags-to-Riches Tournament was such a success that it won't be "annual" anymore!
Close to 20 players took to the trackball on Saturday, Oct 13th at Cabana Jo’s in Prescott, WI to see if they could turn their BAGS skills into cold hard cash. And with experience ranging from seasoned pro's to complete newbie's, the action was as fun as it was competitive.
"The tournament turned out really well," commented promoter Brett Rossen. "A lot of people came out, and we had a lot of in experienced players - some who had never played before. But everyone had a great time."
While some players cheered for one-pointers, a few top tossers managed to play their way past the competition and into the riches. But once the pressure was on, the high scores turned off. In the finals, Rossen found himself up against the "world renowned" Bill Kunde as a heavy underdog. But even though Kunde should have trounced his score of 58, Kunde couldn't find his rhythm and Rossen walked away with the largest chunk of the riches - a cool $300!
Kunde pocketed $150 and Rhiannon Rossen took home $50 for third.
With close to 100 players and fans filling Cabana Jo's, the question Rossen heard all night was when the next tournament would be. With its quick gameplay and intense heads-up competition, even players who didn't compete this first time wanted to get in on the future BAGS action. And they made sure Rossen knew "annual" wasn't going to be good enough.
"A lot of people kept asking me if we were going to put on another tournament," Rossen said afterwards. "I know Cabana Jo's wants to host another. So we are setting up another one for sometime in the upcoming months. Once the weather gets colder people will have no other option than to stay indoors. So hopefully we can keep making this tournament bigger and better and turn it into a staple of winter."
